Chhotu.in - Ecommerce Delivery Boy

Chhotu.in has a young team of hardworking people who are innovating in the field of eCommerce logistics and their vision is  to deliver anything ordered online within 24 hours anywhere in India and support eCommerce growth and making it more profitable for merchants. We got a chance to talk to Navneet Singh , Founder and CEO of Chhotu.in.

What chhotu.in is into and what are you offering?
We are an eCommerce enabling service building the missing pieces in the eCommerce ecosystem. We offer last mile delivery solutions, warehousing, packaging and customer support services. Our plans are to enter in other missing peices like innovation in mobile payments etc.

How old is the company and what force you to start this company?
We are an year old company. The start was simple. We were buying online but didn't receive our orders as advertised in 2-3 business days. After some deeper market research and studying the mature markets like US, China (which is more like Indian market), middle east, Europe and Russia, that there is a trend about how these markets evolved. Payments wise, Asian and middle east markets COD dominant despite they have very varied presence of online payments ecosystem available. US and European markets are more online prepaid dominant. We believe this is more to do with local culture than anything else. Another interesting related observation is there are clear market leaders in US and European markets whereas Asian markets are fragmented. So customer loyalty is hard to create here.
We started Chhotu.in with a simple and clear vision, to support eCommerce in India making it a sustainable business.

How big is your team now?
We are  a 150 people team.

Currently, how many customers visit/track their orders from chhotu.in?
We observe a daily 700 unique shipment tracking done from our website.

Are you competing with courier companies?
Yes and no. With 80% COD traffic, eCommerce companies don't need a courier company. They need a sales company. Most courier companies are not built for this. We have built our model around eCommerce which is why we have very few returns.

What is your monetization model?
We charge on per transaction basis. Delivery success is built in pricing.

How many ecommerce companies you tied up with?
We are working with around 50 eCommerce companies with a healthy mix of market leaders like UrbanTouch, Healthkart, Lenskart, Snapdeal, Zovi, Firstcry, Inkfruit etc.

What value you bring to the ecommerce companies and end customers?
As I mentioned in the beginning, we intend to provide what is missing. For end customers we create dominos like experience. For eCommerce companies we provide partnership (read - not vendorship). We support eCommerce companies with our services and continue to innovate achieving new level every other month. Most recently we opened our customer support for eCommerce companies.

What is the company strategy going forward?
We see ourselves as a perfect fit in the eCommerce ecosystem. Our strategy is to keep coming out with new services and innovations while scaling and becoming a highly profitable business. Technology is a game changer.

Alibaba plans direct entry to India. Do Flipkart and Amazon need to worry ?

G ood news for consumers especially for those who are ordering from Alibaba (China) and wait for their products to arrive after 45 days . Many of Indian online consumers order directly from Alibaba as the cost advantage is huge (almost as low as 20% - 30% of the price you get it from Flipkart and Amazon) .  They get their products from Aliexpress (Alibaba logistics arm) after 45 days. " We buy electronics items quite frequently from Alibaba and the prices are very low compare to Indian online retailers", said a frequent buyer from India. Many traders get their product directly from Alibaba after paying import duty and still it is quite cheap. They sell these products on Indian marketplace like Flipkart and Amazon.  If you see the math, it is quite simple . Flipkart and Amazon charge approximately 20% commission from the sellers. Sellers add his markup price on top of delivery charges , transaction charges plus market place commission, import duty from China, sel...

Local Registration - A New Tectic for Amazon

A mazon, the giant in e -commerce is now ready with its new tactic to gain more customers. Some time before the idea put forward for “ local registration ” was one such preceding move to create an output that aimed at well planned establishment of the company in the mobile market . Yes, it succeeded in its attempt and came up with “Amazon local register” . However this time what the company renders is not the conventional style – the introduction of new mobile types or stores, but a technology that could obviously contribute to a multidimensional trustworthy money transfer mechanism.  Recently the system came to the mobile payment market, taking companies such as square and PayPal here. The label is a combination of a secure card reader, which must be purchased for US$10, and a free mobile app. Together, they offer a platform that allows businesses to accept credit and debit card payments using smart phones or tablet. The introductory fees for sign up on or before of 31 is 1.7...
