edabba - Bridging the gap between rural and urban India


edabba.com was born with an intention to provide a fearless online shopping experience to everyone exposed and an unexpected concept of online shopping. Their mission is to minimize the gap between modern India (cities) and the other untapped ‘Bharat’ (rural) by following an “Inclusive” E-commerce model. This model aligns with principle of empowering consumers, presenting opportunities to every individual residing in any corner of India and also building a platform for local retailers to sell their product in a larger arena. To understand more about edabba.com (Omnipresent Retail India Pvt ltd) we had a talk with Co-Founder and CEO and Founder Manoj Kumar. 


What is edabba.com into? What need are you catering?
We have innovated our model to serve the aspirations of small towns of Bharat through inclusive ecommerce, ours is a click and brick model.

You were the CEO of consumer durable and electronics (EZONE and Electronics Bazaar) at future group, why did you quit your lucrative career and venture into Ecommerce landscape?
Ideas and opportunities are scarce and if you are convinced about the idea and you see a huge opportunity then one should put all his might behind that and that is what I have done, I think we can create a new way of shopping for our customers of Bharat.

Whom are you typically competing and what value edabba.com brings to the table?
We are not competing with any ecommerce company, we are trying to create a new way of shopping for our customers of Bharat.

What all brands you have currently and next 2-3 months what all brands are you going to add?
We have more than 250 brands listed on our site. Our main categories are mobiles, laptops, tablets, TV and other electronic products, music, movies and air ticketing.

Which all geography are you catering?
Through online we are catering to the whole country but through our trust points Uttarakhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Goa, Punjab.

Did you raise any funding?
Yes US$ 1 million in April'12.

What are technology initiatives you going to take in next 6-8 months’ timeframe? Is mobile, ipad part of your strategy?
We are launching a completely new site by mid-September, our site will provide enhanced experience to customers. By October we will have apps for all the phones and tablets.

What is your marketing strategy?
We are doing very focused marketing in the states where we have trust points.

Where do you edabba.com in next 2-3 years’ time?
By 2016, we are looking at around 4500 trust points and 1500 cr of topline.
