OyeChotu enables Indian food ordering online for home delivery to NRIs in UK, USA, UAE, etc from popular eateries of Mumbai, India. We had a talk with Ruchita Shah, Founder and CEO of OyeChotu.com to understand more about OyeChotu.com and their future plans.

What is OyeChotu.com and what are you selling?
OyeChotu.com is an online service for NRIs to order Indian foods from India for delivery to their doorsteps. While in countries such as France, Netherlands, China & others where Indian foods are hardly available and even if available it’s not authentic. OyeChotu.com delivers wide variety of Indian foods to them in the category of Ready to Eat, Namkeen, Sweets, Special Masalas, Syrups etc. This service thus helps NRIs for living and working in such remote locations abroad. Customers of OyeChotu.com would feel as if they are shopping in India due to wider variety and unique foods such as Dosa Khakra, Rotla, Bhakri, Dabeli Masala & much more.



How did this name come out OyeChotu?
It is derived from the slang used by Indians to call any delivery boy while ordering food. We deliberately choose this name as we want Indians to use smart services like OyeChotu.com to order food and not denote delivery boys with such slangs & rather use names.

Which all geography do you have presence?
OyeChotu.com has its services in UK, USA, UAE, Entire Europe, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Canada.

Food items are perishable goods how are you managing all this?
We have items on-board that stay fresh for a minimum of 7 days. Most of the items are not perishable for 30 days.

Did you receive any funding?
This is a self-funded business.

Which all are the most popular items on OyeChotu?
Vada Pav chutney and Chivdas are most popular.

Which new products are you adding in next couple of months?
Innovative products are in line for OyeChotu.com. NRIs will get never heard before variety on OyeChotu.com

How many visitors coming to your site and what about the conversion?
We have visitors from UK, USA and China the most. There are approx. 300-400 visitors per day and 1-2% average conversion.

How are you doing marketing for OyeChotu?
Online marketing & Social Media Marketing are the main tools used for marketing. We are coming up with some innovative campaigns and promotions in near future.

Any technology initiative in mind?
Mobile App for OyeChotu.com is in roadmap.

Where do you see OyeChotu in next 2-3 years’ time?
In 2-3 years OyeChotu.com will have more & more channels to order & buy Indian Food products abroad.

Snapdeal Goof up  Recently, Snapdeal goofs up delivery of Samsung galaxy duo mobile phone. The phone Mr  Laxminarayan Krishnamurthy     wanted to gift his wife on her birthday. Instead of samsung mobile he has received an old kitchen soap. Imagine a customer reaction.  See what he has written on his facebook wall and the post got viral and till now it has got 20,524 shares on Facebook. Imagine how many people the post might have reached. The rough estimates of the reach could be around 40 to 50 lac people. (just an estimate) Nothing much to say about Snapdeal, when you see mouthshut reviews and customer complaints.  This is not new. Alibaba plans direct entry to India. Do Flipkart and Amazon need to worry ?

G ood news for consumers especially for those who are ordering from Alibaba (China) and wait for their products to arrive after 45 days . Many of Indian online consumers order directly from Alibaba as the cost advantage is huge (almost as low as 20% - 30% of the price you get it from Flipkart and Amazon) .  They get their products from Aliexpress (Alibaba logistics arm) after 45 days. " We buy electronics items quite frequently from Alibaba and the prices are very low compare to Indian online retailers", said a frequent buyer from India. Many traders get their product directly from Alibaba after paying import duty and still it is quite cheap. They sell these products on Indian marketplace like Flipkart and Amazon.  If you see the math, it is quite simple . Flipkart and Amazon charge approximately 20% commission from the sellers.
